22/10 to 15/11/2015
Gleichapel is pleased to present the second part of Vincent Tanguy’s exhibition on the occasion of FIAC 2015. Entitled “Break,” this second stage consists of a series of photographs that portray exhibitors stalls from which the artworks were digitally emptied. The series was made within the walls of the Grand Palais during closing hours of FIAC’s precedent edition.
Presented at the same time of this major event, the photographs permit the viewer to rethink the spaces of prefabricated exhibitions that are provisional and standardised outside of their initial context. The singularity of these spaces characterised by the works presented, seem to disappear to the benefit of substitution. It reveals the organisation of the container by replacing its contents. Thus the artist interrogates the space itself: that of the exhibition, the white cube, the art gallery or that which has passed.
Vincent Tanguy sheds light on these systems which gravitate around the same energy and concludes his first research on the exhibition space within Gleichapel’s walls in Paris.
“A few years ago, I noticed something; our life, our social behaviour, gravitates around energy, a matter akin to a black hole. The Break series is an attempt to materialise this energy on the scale of the art world”
-Vincent Tanguy
