The participatory performance “Office of Redemption”, initially conceived in partnership with a charitable organisation, has been modified and now designated as “The Office of I don’t know what”, a project that concerns censorship and artistic engagement.
“How does one adapt an existing project when a crisis situation arrives… when an artistic project of solidarity turns into a trial of moral intentions? “
The Office of Redemption – a dead born project – regenerates from its ashes. It is necessary to cover up the defunct and guilt ridden phrases of the initiative, which had an original meaning, and redesign the words to give them a second life for a new project.
The Redemption Office is thus transformed into The Office of I don’t know what benefitting almost nothing. The reference to Jankélévitch relates to thinking about irreversible time where what is past, is past. What is at stake for each person is that which unfolds before them, towards a dimension on which to act, giving way to freedom.
The act of redemption, an invitation to make a gift, originally launched in the Marais district, is in the end an indescribable act, responding to a last minute adjustment which I had to face and react to quite quickly. And what if this new engagement permits the preservation of a possibility to enact the original intention of giving? Not really identifiable, not really definable, the act itself is in favour of an unexpected action to take, that will happen on June 25, as decided.
